EXE-X South West Alumnae Group - NETWORKING PLUS – DRINKS AND VIRAGO BOOK CHAT

Meet fellow female graduates and bring a book if you wish!

Event details

Following a popular ‘holiday reading’ drinks and chat event last year, we have decided to mark the 50th Anniversary of Virago publishing with another informal networking and book chat evening for our alumnae (female graduates) group.

“Speaking out is not new for the fairer sex. The words of women run like a fine thread through the whole history of writing” Sandi Toksvig, Furies, (Virago 2024)

Do you have a favourite Virago book?  One which inspired, enlightened or entertained?  Come along with or without a book and join in the chat on Virago’s impact and legacy. June 2024 marks the end of Virago’s 50th anniversary year.  Founded by Carmen Callil to champion women’s voices and famous for their striking green spines and cover art, Virago paperbacks are one of the great publishing success stories of our time.

We will be meeting for general networking chat and you are also invited to bring along a Virago book if you wish.  As previously, this is not a book club but simply an enjoyable opportunity to meet fellow female graduates and hear what they have been reading and why.

No need to reserve your place. Just turn up, buy a drink from the bar on arrival (soft drinks, tea, coffee, and nibbles also available) and join us either just beyond the bar, or if it is fine in the garden.  The Citygate is a short walk from Exeter Central station and there is some free parking (after 6pm) on St David’s Hill between the pub and the campus.
